Operations guide

Event night: which screen to open, which button to press

This guide is for the person running the computer during the draw. There are three screens, each with one job: the draw page to operate, the stage screen to show on the LED wall, and the Control page to press buttons remotely. Read it to plan your devices, know which button to use when, and what to check before showtime.

3 SCREENS

One screen, one job

All three show the same draw. The winner is always picked by the server, so pressing draw on any screen gives the same result.

SETUPS

Pick a setup that fits your stage

A small stage needs one computer. Add the stage screen and the Control page when you have a separate LED wall or the coordinator stands far from the computer.

  • 1 computer, 1 projector

    • Draw page

The operator's computer is connected straight to the projector. Open the draw page, go full screen, then draw with Space or the 4-button dock at the bottom right.

Good for company parties and small halls. Nothing else to turn on.

  • Projector + coordinator with a phone

    • Draw page
    • Control page

The computer on the projector shows the draw page in full screen. The coordinator stands next to the MC and starts and confirms draws from the Control page on a phone.

When the projector computer is far from the stage. Needs Remote Control turned on in event settings.

  • Separate LED wall + operator desk

    • Draw page
    • Stage screen
    • Control page

The computer on the LED wall only opens the stage screen. The operator desk keeps the draw page to operate and the Control page to watch connections.

Big stages that need a clean LED picture, with no toolbar or buttons in front of the audience.

DRAW PAGE

The draw page: where you operate

Every draw starts on this page, even when you press the button on the Control page. In normal mode the page has the full toolbar for getting ready; switch to full screen when you show it to the audience.

Normal mode: prize name with arrows, draw button in the middle, toolbar below.
  1. 1Prize name + arrows: move to the previous or next prize. The arrows are locked while drawing.
  2. 2Draw button: Start, then Pause for manual prizes, or Drawing for prizes that stop on their own. When a prize is full the button becomes Next Prize.
  3. 3Toolbar: Draw Settings, Participants, All Results, Theme, Sound, Last Drawn Results. Some buttons only show for people who can edit the event.
  4. 4Full screen (bottom left): blows the draw up to the whole screen and hides the toolbar, for showing to the audience.

Full-screen mode

Full screen hides the toolbar and the prize arrows. Instead there is a small 4-button dock at the bottom right. Press Esc or the minimize button to go back to normal mode.

Full screen: only the draw stage, with the 4-button dock at the bottom right.
  1. 14-button dock, left to right: Previous prize, Start / Pause, Next prize, Replay the last result. Hover over a greyed-out button to see why it is locked.
  2. 2Minimize: leave full screen and bring the toolbar back.

Keyboard shortcuts

Shortcuts work in both normal and full-screen mode, except while you are typing in a field. While a dialog such as Draw Settings or Participants is open, Space won't start a draw, but ← → still switch the prize behind the dialog, so close the dialog before pressing the arrows.

KeyWhat it does
SpaceStart the draw. For manual prizes, press again to stop. A stop pressed within about 2 seconds of starting is ignored.
EnterConfirm the new winner and close the congratulation screen.
EscSkip the new winner (only for prizes that draw 1 person per round). In full-screen mode, use the on-screen buttons instead, because Esc is also the browser's exit-full-screen key.
← →Move to the previous or next prize. You can't switch prizes while drawing.

The winner congratulation screen

When a draw ends, the congratulation screen shows the winner. The result is only kept once you press Confirm.

Prizes that draw 1 person per round: both Confirm and Skip.
  1. 1Confirm (Enter): keep the result and close the congratulation screen.
  2. 2Skip (Esc): drop the person just drawn, for example when they are absent. A skipped person won't be drawn for later prizes.
Prizes that draw several people per round: only Confirm.
  1. 1Confirm: keep the whole round. To drop an absent person, press Delete on their row in the results list, on the draw page or on the Control page.
  2. 2Full-screen view: enlarge the winner list when a round has many people.

Announcing again: Last Drawn Results (toolbar) or the trophy in the 4-button dock reopens the congratulation screen of the latest round. The replay screen only has Close; use it to close once you have read the names out.

STAGE SCREEN

The stage screen for LED walls: display only

The stage screen mirrors the draw page: same look, same rounds, same sound, but no toolbar and nothing to press. Use it when the LED wall is connected to its own computer with nobody operating it.

The stage screen: like the draw page, without the toolbar or any buttons.

Opening the stage screen

  1. 1Go to Admin → Operations → Control and click Open stage screen at the top right. The stage screen opens in a new tab.
  2. 2Drag that tab onto the LED display, or open the same link on the computer connected to the LED wall.
  3. 3Press F11 (Windows) or Ctrl + Cmd + F (Mac) for full screen. The stage screen has no full-screen button of its own.
  4. 4The LED computer must be signed in with an account that can access the event. There is no public link to the stage screen.
The stage screen shows the same winner as the draw page, with only a small Close button.
  1. 1Close: closes the congratulation screen on the stage screen only; the draw page and results are not affected. Esc on the LED computer does the same.

The stage screen only runs when all 3 are true

  • • Remote Control is on in event settings. When it is off, the stage screen stays still and shows a small note at the bottom left.
  • • The event's draw page is open on another computer or tab. The stage screen follows the draw page, even when you press buttons on the Control page.
  • • The LED computer is signed in with an account that can access the event.

Sound and network drops: the stage screen also plays the draw and congratulation sounds. If both computers are connected to speakers, mute one to avoid an echo. When the network drops, the stage screen reconnects and reloads the results by itself; meanwhile it prefers to stay empty rather than show the wrong winner.

CONTROL

The Control page: remote buttons and connection checks

The Control page lives at Admin → Operations → Control and only shows in the menu once Remote Control is on. Buttons pressed here go to the draw page, and the stage screen follows.

The Control page with 1 draw page and 1 stage screen open.
  1. 1Open stage screen: opens the LED display in a new tab.
  2. 2Current prize: choose the prize to draw. Every switch asks you to confirm first.
  3. 3The main button changes with the state: Start draw, Stop draw, Drawing... (prizes that stop on their own) or Prize exhausted once the prize is full, as in the picture. After a draw it shows Confirm, plus Skip for prizes that draw 1 person per round.
  4. 4Connected to this event: Draw screens should be 1 (2 or more turns yellow, so close the extra tab; 0 means no draw page is open). Viewers is the number of stage screens open.
  5. 5Results list: press Delete to cancel a winner. That person moves to the cancelled list and won't be drawn for later prizes.
On a phone the cards stack into one column.

A phone in hand, next to the MC

Open the Control page in the phone's browser and sign in with the same account. How to turn Remote Control on, the Luck4You Event app and what to do when a button is greyed out are covered in the remote control guide.

CHECKLIST

Checks before, during and after showtime

Print it or keep it open on your phone, and tick each item before the MC goes on stage.

Before showtime

  • Turn Remote Control on in event settings (needed for the stage screen and the Control page).
  • Then reload the open draw page, because the page only reads settings when it loads.
  • Open the stage screen on the LED computer, sign in and press F11 for full screen.
  • On the Control page, the Connected to this event card: Draw screens = 1, Viewers = number of stage screens.
  • Click once on the draw page (and the stage screen) so the browser allows sound to play.
  • Do a few test draws, then clear the test results in the results table before the show starts.
  • Turn off sleep mode, screen savers and notifications on the projector and LED computers.

During the show

  • Only one person presses the controls at a time; agree beforehand who it is.
  • For manual prizes, wait about 2 seconds after starting before pressing stop.
  • Don't switch prizes while drawing; the system blocks it.
  • Absent winner: Skip (prizes with 1 person per round) or Delete in the results list (prizes with several people).
  • To read names out again, use Last Drawn Results and close it with Close.

After the show

  • Press Download Result in the results table to save the winner list.
  • Close the stage screen and the draw page on shared computers.

Frequently asked questions

Situations that often come up while running a draw.

The stage screen doesn't follow the draw page?+

Check three things: Remote Control is on, the draw page was reloaded after turning it on, and the draw page of the right event is open. When Remote Control is off, the stage screen shows a note at the bottom left.

I can't find the Open stage screen button?+

It is on the Control page (Admin → Operations → Control). The Control item only shows in the menu once the event has Remote Control turned on.

Does the LED computer need to sign in?+

Yes. The stage screen only opens with an account that can access the event; there is no public link to send to another computer.

How do I make the stage screen fill the LED wall?+

The stage screen has no full-screen button. Press F11 on Windows, or Ctrl + Cmd + F on a Mac.

The draw page plays no music?+

Browsers block sound until someone clicks the page. Click anywhere on the draw page (and the stage screen) once before showtime.

I pressed stop but the draw didn't stop?+

Stop is only accepted about 2 seconds after starting, to avoid double presses. Wait a moment and press again. Automatic prizes stop on their own after the set time.

The connections card shows 2 draw screens?+

Two tabs or two computers have the event's draw page open. Close the extras and keep a single draw page so remote commands don't get mixed up.

What happens if the network drops mid-show?+

The screens reconnect by themselves. Remote commands older than 60 seconds are ignored rather than replayed. Once you are back online, check the connections card and press again.

Does it matter which device I press draw on?+

No. The winner is always picked by the server; pressing on the draw page, the Control page or the app gives the same result.
